Europe is FIGHTING BACK against OVERTOURISM….
Last week across Europe locals hit the streets protesting against the effects of rampant over tourism.
Since the decline of tourism in 2020, people have been steadily getting out and traveling again, with more and more tourists visiting Europe.
The problem is that most of those visitors are going to the SAME PLACES at the SAME TIME. Places like Venice, Barcelona, Rome, Mallorca, Tenerife, Florence, Santorini, Dubrovnik, Athens and Amsterdam are all feeling the effects of overtourism and locals let the world know that they’re tired of their homes being treated like a theme park.
Some protesters in Barcelona even resorted to spraying unsuspecting tourists with water guns (not cool). While I fully understand the frustration and respect the desire to express it, attacking innocent people isn’t the answer.
Here are some tips that could help you out.
Avoid Peak Season (if possible)
Skip Popular Destinations and visit other less known places.
Travel Slowly (trying to see everything in one day is stressful anyways).
Be respectful and self-aware.
Lead with a smile and a genuine interest in the people you meet, their culture, history and cuisine.
Shop Local. Eat local. Sleep Local.
