The Orbit Trap - Mandelbrot Fractal Zoom @MathsTown

A Mandelbrot zoom made with pure "Orbit Trap" colouring. An Orbit Trap is a colouring method that chooses the colour based on how close the sequence of iterations gets to a certain point. I originally rendered this video for the new VR channel (hence the 2:1 screen ratio), but I thought it was nice enough to re-export and release on the main channel. Please subscribe.

Ive often referred to the Burning Ship as the Mandelbrots ugly cousin, but it now seems that she just wasnt dressed for the ball. This video uses is a customised colouring technique that brings out the detail in shapes. The Burning Ship is a fractal full of architectural shapes, harsh edges, and islands. Adding the absolute value function means that it is no longer analytic, and it is not a continuous fractal. It has islands and cut edges.
