As someone with divorced parents, when I started to learn about Christianity and even became a Christian myself, I found a lot of consolation in the seriousness with which the faith treats marriage and divorce. Especially in a society that talks about divorce as some kind of progressive and empowering reality.
The Bible treats marriage as something way more than a mere civil contract. It says that God joins to people together and that they become ONE flesh - to the degree that it would be impossible to separate them without killing them.
