Audino is not really known as a great Pokémon in competitive play, because it’s overall very poorly designed for competitive. Audino’s stats are very lackluster. It does have some good bulk across the board, but it can be hard to make use of that with its very poor defensive typing. This leaves it generally outclassed by Blissey as this Pokémon is significanlty bulkier and shares this Normal typing. Blissey can actually get away with Normal as a defensive typing as its bulk more than makes up for it. It really should not come as a suprise that Audino has seen very little success in competitive singles with it being ranked in the PU tier in every generation of Smogon singles. Even its Mega Evolution, while somewhat an upgrade, did not make it that much better, with its highest ranking being NU.
As a result Audino is pretty much a forgotten Pokémon in competitive and sees no use in the higher tiers. There is however one exception: gen 8 Ubers. While Audino is by no means a tier staple, it has actually managed to find a legit niche in the tier with all of these strong legendaries. It is ranked a C- tier Pokémon, which isn’t that high, but still higher than strong legendary Pokémon like Kyurem White.
Today we will be exploring what qualities Audino can bring to a team in gen 8 Ubers and how it has managed to carve a niche in the metagame, although be it a small one.
