I felt that I needed to see four things to be wowed. One was a better viewfinder. I was honestly expecting a 3.7 million dot EVF but hay OM Systems exceeded our expectations and we received over 5 million!
The next thing I wanted and did not expect was more dynamic range. And we got it. I am betting this greater dynamic range is taking full advantage of the 12bit file and that means we are getting maximum detail before we step up to the next level of bit depth which is 14bit.
And there is the ISO performance increase. It is huge. And the two stop improvement might even be a modest statement, because with the images I have seen, it looks like 2.25 stops. For astrophotography this will be huge.
Lastly there is the MP count. It is the same. Or is it? Yes this is actually a 80mp sensor binned 2x2 to make it 20mp and I am not complaining as most did not want a MP count boost. However Olympus seams to be using a weighted binning and that means this sensor will deliver the detail of a higher MP sensor. So ya we even got that.
Cannot wait to get the new camera in my hand. Maybe two of them by the end of the year. Thank you OM Systems.
