This step of taken the house off-grid came a lot earlier than initially planned. I was going to wait until 2028 and the feed-in contract ending for my grid connected solar to connect the house to the battery system, but I didn't want to wait until then and my sparky had some time right now...
So, yeah, after the switchboard upgrade (that was an independent task performed at the same time), he installed the transfer switch inside the meter box, so we can switch the house to either grid or off-grid. And that was pretty much the whole installation apart from two additional MCBs to disconnect the house circuit from either inside the battery room and also from the outside meter panel.
I made a small dashboard in Home Assistant to monitor the overall power consumption of both inverters, and it was fun to watch my wife exploring different loads inside the house while watching the power meter going up and down. It is now a matter of time and getting used to what we can switch on at the same time without going overboard with the power usage.
I also show you how the system switches on the booster (2nd inverter) if more power is needed and what I discovered this morning when I looked at the Victron VRM. Another great example of why you should have communication between the batteries and your inverters...
