Drawing on Richard Tarnas (Cosmos and Psyche) and the Jung–Pauli concept of synchronicity, the essay traces a symbolic pattern rather than a causal claim. America has just completed its first Pluto return — the 248-year cycle astrologers associate with death, regeneration, and the surfacing of repressed forces. Trumpism, in this reading, is not an alien invasion of American life but a Plutonic eruption of the national shadow: authoritarianism, oligarchy, imperial violence — everything the official mythology tried to exclude. And this eclipse occurs in Leo, the Sun's own sign, the sign of kingship and spectacle: sovereignty eclipsed in the sign of sovereignty, the third act in a sequence that began with the Great American Eclipse of 2017 and continued over Texas and Maine in April 2024.
The eclipse does not cause the crisis. But it may offer an image of what is already happening. The Sun disappears. The shadow crosses the face of power. And then the light returns. The question is what must happen in the darkness before renewal becomes possible.
