Back in 1999, Brendan Fraser starred in a "modern" re-imagining of the classic Mummy subgenre of movies. Horror, adventure, history and the supernatural. Mummy movies were a staple of classic horror cinema, but were effectively non-existent from the 1960s onward.
Still, The Mummy was an attempt to modernize the classic tales for a newer audience.. and modernize it did! With top-of-the-line CGI that looked fantastic at the time, and now? It stands out like a sore thumb and very solidly dates this movie as being from the late 90s.
Still, it's one of the first movies people think about when they think of Brendan Fraser, so how does it fare overall in entertainment?
