These church offerings are getting completely out of control.
In this video, we examine another troubling offering moment inside a COGIC church service. What should have been a time of worship, preaching, prayer, and biblical instruction quickly became centered on money, pressure, and repeated demands for people to give.

There is nothing wrong with a church receiving an offering. Scripture teaches believers to give generously, willingly, and cheerfully. Churches need financial support to operate, help people in need, support ministry work, and care for those who serve. The problem begins when giving is no longer voluntary and instead becomes manipulative, emotional, competitive, or spiritually threatening.
Too many offering appeals now sound less like biblical stewardship and more like fundraising performances. People are called out publicly, specific dollar amounts are demanded, and those who do not respond are sometimes treated as though they lack faith, obedience, or spiritual maturity.
At some point, we have to ask: When does an offering become spiritual pressure?
When people are repeatedly told to give beyond what they can afford, pressured to use credit cards, instructed to empty their accounts, or promised supernatural results in exchange for a specific amount of money, the church has moved far away from the New Testament pattern of giving.
Second Corinthians 9:7 says that each person should give what they have decided in their own heart—not reluctantly or under compulsion. That means biblical giving should not require manipulation, embarrassment, fear, or pressure from the pulpit.
The church should never make people feel as though God’s love, protection, healing, breakthrough, or favor can be purchased through an offering. The gospel is not for sale. Prayer is not for sale. Prophecy is not for sale. Deliverance is not for sale. God’s blessings cannot be reduced to a financial transaction between a preacher and the congregation.
COGIC has a long and influential history within the Black church tradition, and many faithful pastors and members serve within the denomination. This video is not an attack on every COGIC church or every person connected to COGIC. However, no denomination should be above criticism when questionable practices are happening publicly.
Denominational loyalty should never become an excuse to ignore manipulation.
We need to stop normalizing offering lines that last longer than the sermon. We need to stop celebrating preachers who can raise large amounts of money while barely teaching Scripture. We need to stop treating people who give the most as though they are more spiritual than everyone else.
Jesus did not call pastors to become high-pressure salespeople. He called shepherds to feed the flock, protect the vulnerable, preach the Word, and lead with integrity.
This video will examine what was said during the offering, the methods used to persuade people to give, and whether those methods agree with Scripture. The issue is not simply that money was collected. The issue is how the money was requested, what promises were attached to the giving, and whether the congregation was being spiritually manipulated.
You should never feel ashamed because you cannot give a certain amount. You should never go into debt trying to impress a preacher. You should never neglect your rent, food, utilities, children, or other responsibilities because someone suggested that giving a large offering would force God to bless you.
