MOONS, or the Multi-Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph, is the most complex instrument ever built by the UK for astronomy. Tiny robotic arms that position to within a few microns… and an eight-tonne cryostat with 100kg blocks of glass. From micro-precision to massive mechanics, MOONS combines robotics, optics, cryogenics, and software—all built by a small, dedicated team in Edinburgh.
