I’m working on Transcriber (https://ulti.media/transcriber/) my famous app for transcribing videos and audio, generating subtitles, and now (drumroll)... text-based video pre-editing! Imagine being able to split a script into sentences, reorder, activate/deactivate sections, and export straight to Final Cut Pro with an auto-edited timeline—ready to refine, frame by frame.
But I didn’t stop there. I built a brand new framework, SQR, that brings artificial intelligence (think ChatGPT) into your editing workflow. With SQR, you can prompt the AI to rework your timeline—summarize, rearrange, keep the best sentences—and then send it straight into Final Cut Pro. Edit faster. Work smarter. Mind blown! 🤯

If you work in Italian (like me!), your AI prompts need to be in the same language for best results. And while the cheaper AI models work okay, nothing beats using the full-power ChatGPT 4.1 for deep, context-aware edits. Pro tip: provide context in your prompts for even better results.

Buongiorno carissimi — puntata abbastanza entusiasmante per me: XQR (prima NQR) esiste e funziona.
Di cosa parlo in questo video
- Cos’ho implementato in Transcriber: generazione del contesto dal testo, valutazione dell’aderenza frase→contesto (tanto / poco / nullo) e metadati semplici.
- Estrarre solo le frasi di un certo contesto o quelle marcate con la stellina (introduzione/chiusura).
- Estrazione di sottoliste: prendere solo le frasi che messe insieme hanno senso — il nocciolo del mio lavoro dell’ultimo mese.
- Modelli: il “nano” è troppo cheap (tipo 3.5), mentre gpt-4.1-mini fa il lavoro e restituisce riassunti decenti senza costare come il 4.1 classico.
- Tempi di processamento: generare contesto 15–20s, ~1–2s/frase — un’ora di video con ~400 frasi ci mette 5–8 minuti + 30–35s per l’elenco delle sottofrasi.
- Risultato: soddisfacente (pre-montaggio basato sul testo, non montaggio perfetto), compressione iterativa del video fino a un limite ragionevole.
- Capitoli automatici: idea e metodo — far restituire all’LLM i capitoli e, per ogni capitolo, la prima frase; ho provato a pensare a JSON per blindare l’output.
- Altre idee: estrarre le 1–3 frasi consecutive più impattanti per creare clip di lancio.
- Limiti: sincronizzazione temporale non sempre perfetta, multicam ancora problema, interfaccia Transcriber da sistemare.

Quick update from the outskirts of Milan: autumn vibes (rainy, grey, cold) after a hot summer, and I’m back from a long August with the family, full of vibe coding energy to help editors.
In this episode:
- FCP Cut Finder updated — new underlying algorithm for much better speed and accuracy

- Fixed non-integer FPS issues (29.98, 23.976... NTSC, I blame you 😉) — Final Cut time quirks finally handled
- New larger preview window to spot false positives easily
- Removed complicated analysis settings — now it “just works” for newbies and pros
- Tracked down a serious bug: strange characters in folder paths could break analysis — still investigating edge cases
