My guest today is Paul Bloom, Professor Emeritus of psychology and cognitive science at Yale University, Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto, and the author of many books, including 'Just Babies: The Origins of Good and Evil', 'Against Empathy: The Case for Rational Compassion', and 'Psych: The Story of the Human Mind.'
We spoke about how young children develop morality, the role of disgust in moral intuition, how homophobia is connected to disgust sensitivity in men, and why empathy often leads us to make bad moral decisions. In the extended version of the episode, we also spoke about porn, romantic fiction for women, and whether some women may be drawn to BDSM for the same reason they're drawn to true crime and horror films.
