An enormous 8.8 earthquake just occurred off eastern Russia's Kamchatka peninsula. It's not the first from this area--a 9.0 occurred in nearly the same area in 1952! The 8.8 shook up the Top 10 largest recorded earthquakes list and caused tsunamis within the Pacific Basin. This video talks about what is under the earth's surface that caused the earthquake, and also shows where other top 10 quakes happened and how they compare in terms of geologic nature.
