The Mission for Missions (Acts 1 & Matthew 28) Heartfelt sermon by Pastor JD Howell
What does it mean to truly live on mission for God? In this powerful message, Pastor JD Howell draws our attention to the heart of faith and obedience as seen throughout Scripture, connecting it to the clear command given in Acts 1 and Matthew 28. The Christian life is not about a comfortable routine or a faith that simply fits into our plans, but a surrendered life that trusts God completely and follows His mission, even when it does not make sense.
Throughout the message, we are reminded that faith is not just believing when things are clear, but trusting God when they are not. Just as Isaac and Jacob had to accept God’s sovereign plan, even when it went against expectation, we are called to trust God’s direction for our lives and His mission for the world. Jesus commands His followers to go, to witness, and to make disciples, and that mission requires faith that does not rely on feelings or understanding, but on obedience to God’s Word.
The Bible reminds us in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” And in Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
This message challenges us to stop resisting God’s plan and start trusting Him fully. Whether it is sharing the Gospel, stepping into a calling, or surrendering an area of life, the mission requires faith that says, “God, I will follow You, even when I do not understand.”
