The Mark Four was an English pop rock band from Hertfordshire, England that was formed in 1963. Members included Kenny Pickett (vocals), Eddie Phillips (guitar), John Dalton (bass), Mick Thompson (guitar) and Jack Jones (drums).
The group recorded its first single in March 1964, and released it in May of the same year. Three more singles followed, the last of which was released August 1965. During this span the group would perform regularly, even seven days a week. The group even opened for a new club in Wilhelmshaven, Germany called The Big Ben Club.
Dalton left to join The Kinks on 31 October 1965 and Bob Garner replaced him. Soon after this line-up change, they became The Creation and went on to record singles between 1966 and 1968, including the Top 40 hit "Painter Man".

![The Creation Our Music Is Red With Purple Flashes [bonus tracks]
The Creation includes: Kenny Pickett, Eddie Phillips, Jack Jones, Bob Garner, Kim Gardner, Herbie Flowers, Ron Wood.Includes liner notes by John Reed.Liner Note Author: John Reed.Titled after a famous quote from guitarist Eddie Phillips and released just before the Creation finally achieved its three-decades-delayed U.S. breakthrough when Wes Anderson used the bands trademark hit Making Time in his 1999 film RUSHMORE, OUR MUSIC IS RED WITH PURPLE FLASHES outdoes all previous Creation compilations. Collecting every studio track this band recorded in its original 60s incarnation, including rarities like the rarely-available but bittersweetly beautiful Sweet Helen along with legendary mod-psychedelia guitar-blast classics like Making Time, Biff Bang Pow, and Painter Man, and including rare photos and extensive liner notes, this is a textbook example of how to do a compilation. No fan of 60s U.K. pop should be without this record.
