Not every Star Wars movie needs to reinvent the franchise. Sometimes fans just want great action, memorable characters, and a good time at the theater—and that’s exactly what The Mandalorian & Grogu delivered.
But looking ahead, we’re much more interested in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie starring Ryan Gosling.
Unlike The Mandalorian, Starfighter has a much bigger job. It takes place after The Rise of Skywalker, meaning Star Wars finally has an opportunity to move beyond the Empire, the First Order, and decades of familiar conflicts.
Because if the next big villain is just another group of Imperial remnants… that’s going to be a tough sell for a lot of fans.
At some point, Star Wars needs to introduce a new threat, a new conflict, and a new direction for the galaxy.
Can Starfighter finally be the movie that moves Star Wars forward?
