Originally conceived as a comic counterpart to Death in Venice, The Magic Mountain is a monumental achievement by Thomas Mann. A novel about death and illness that will have you thinking about the big questions while laughing out loud.
Set in a sanatorium up in the Swiss Alps, where the young and naive Hans Castorp is visiting his cousin. Castorp's intention is to stay for a few weeks, but will he? What makes this mountain magical?
