The Obelisk has always been on that knoll, as far as anyone knows. It seems to have been erected in honor of the dead from some long forgotten battle. Every now and then, someone will visit the site and pay homage to the mysterious monument to forgotten events.

I'd been feeling dour at the time of composition and piano music seemed to be what I wanted to make.
