Every community—religious or secular—imposes expectations. Christianity is unique in that it makes those expectations explicit, aims them toward virtue and human flourishing, and pairs them with unlimited forgiveness.

Why do so many people leave Christianity claiming trauma, judgment, or abuse, especially from the Church? In this video, I examine the common narratives around “religious trauma,” confessional horror stories, and moral judgment, and argue that they often mistake moral demands for oppression.
Christianity doesn’t enslave us, it forms us for freedom. And leaving the Church doesn’t remove judgment; it just replaces it with harsher, less merciful rules.
