True reform—whether personal, educational, or liturgical—must be slow, consistent, and rooted in habit. The sudden and dramatic overhaul of the Roman liturgy in 1969 ignored this principle, leading not to a renaissance but to destabilization. Pope Benedict XVI’s vision of mutual enrichment between the old and new rites offered a more sustainable path for liturgical renewal and should be restored.
