The King Has Come (Luke 19:28-44) Life-changing sermon by Pastor JD Howell
What kind of King rides into a city on a borrowed colt instead of a warhorse? In this powerful sermon from Luke 19, Pastor JD Howell opens the account of Christ’s triumphal entry and shows that this was far more than a public procession. It was the fulfillment of prophecy, the revealing of the promised Messiah, and the declaration that Jesus Christ is the true King. He came just as Zechariah foretold, not in pride or earthly splendor, but in humility, righteousness, and peace. The King had come, and He had come with salvation.
As the people rejoiced and cried out in praise, they were responding to the mighty works they had seen and to the hope they had found in Jesus. Luke 19:38 says, “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.” This moment reminds us that Jesus is worthy of joyful, open, wholehearted praise. He is not merely a good teacher or religious figure. He is the King of kings who came to save sinners, bring peace to troubled hearts, and call people to trust Him fully.
Yet the sermon also shows the sadness of this passage. While some praised, others rejected. While disciples rejoiced, Pharisees complained. And when Jesus looked over Jerusalem, He wept because people were missing the very salvation standing before them. That same truth still speaks to us today. We can be close to the things of God and still miss the heart of the Gospel if we do not personally receive Christ. John 3:17 reminds us, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Have you simply heard about the King, or have you truly bowed your heart to Him and received the salvation He came to bring?
Are you praising Jesus as your King and trusting Him as your Savior, or are you in danger of missing the peace and salvation He has already come to offer?
