The Impossible Problem of Modern Final Fantasy. Every game after Squarsoft's FFX is massively divisive. FFX-2, FF12, FF13, FF15, FF16, FF7 Remake, Rebirth and Revelation. They are all the Dark Souls 2 of the series. Maybe not as bad as Devil May Cry 2, but at least DMC2 doesn't waste as much of your time. Square Enix does not need to cater to modern FF fans because they care more about being a fan of Final Fantasy, than about the game's quality itself. Many are fans of being FF fans. But OG FF fans won't it anymore unless it feels like a real FF. Same with outsiders / the average gamer / normal people. They won't buy a game that half the fanbase hates.
