Als Geek Lab | The #IBM PC turns 40: How IBM came to make the PC @AlsGeekLab | Uploaded August 2021 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Today, August 12th 2021, marks the 40th anniversary of the IBM PC. IBM were late to the game - by 1981, at least 3 other major competitors had been established for 3 or more years, but as we know, history made the IBM PC the industry standard we have today. How did a behemoth of a company, notorious for taking 4+ years to develop their proprietary products come to market in just one year with open-architecture, off the shelf components? This fascinating story starts with a little of IBM's history, followed by the choices that led IBM to chose Intel's CPU and the open architecture that became industry-standard way after IBM exited the PC market.
This video was originally made in 2020, however it has been edited for this special 40th Anniversary edition! Many happy returns, PC!
