Atom City Girl is a tune from the Scottish band The Hussys new CD Super Pro and is one of my favorite songs on the album. It fairly screamed for a video so I cut one together in my spare time using Russian and Ukranian tourist photos from the internet and a little imagination.
Heres what inspired James McColl from The Hussy's to write this song:
"I was wandering around Borders Books where they sell glossy international magazines that you don't get in your local Spar. I opened one up and there was a story about girls that worked in a processing plant for nuclear materials in Russia. During the day they had their hands in those big protected grabbers and were dismantling bombs and then at night they were holding magic beauty queen wands and wearing tiaras. What also intrigued me was that the Atom Cities that they worked in weren't on the map until a few years ago. The Russians hid them from Western eyes. I know there are no street names or post codes in Albania but living in a whole city that didn't exist on a map must have been strange. Did they reprint special limited edition maps for the children in the schools in these places? One of the bonuses of living in an Atom City was free bus transport apparently which more than makes up for not existing..."
