This is one of my favorite songs to play, cheerful and happy. It's called, "The Hukilau Song." I didn't realize the design on my shirt until I saw it in the video afterwards, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel is pictured in the shirt's design. That is so cool. I was inside the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in 2008 and it was absolutely beautiful, with old woodwork and exotic artwork. I noticed the pink color on the shirt, which is the color of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. I have a couple pictures of the outside of the hotel on my "about page" of my steel guitar website. I used the C6th tuning to record this song. I used some right palm muting technique, which goes well with this song. I play an interesting run in the song, which is simple to play, but unique. You play fret 3, then 4 on string 5. Then frets 2,3,4,5 on string 4. Then frets 4,5,6,7 and string 3. Then frets 5,6,7 on string 2. It's a Jerry Byrd style run that I figured out by slowing the recording down to "Sophisticated Hula." It's not the same run, but one I made up using the same technique. There's nothing like Hawaiian steel guitar.
