This Browning Automatic Rifle military history documentary covers the full story of the BAR from its creation in WWI through Korea, including a dark chapter most people don't talk about. John Browning designed a rifle to solve a problem that was costing soldiers their lives in alarming numbers, and it ended up serving for over 50 years across three wars.

Then came WWII, where the Army's "improvements" actually made the rifle worse and soldiers stripped them off within weeks. In the Pacific, the BAR became the second most important weapon after flamethrowers. Marines put the BAR gunner at the point of every patrol, and the Japanese learned quickly which American had to go first. After two years of combat, Marines tripled the number of BARs per squad. The rifle kept working through Korea in conditions that froze other weapons solid.
