Intrigue and horror surround the baffling disappearance and murder of Shorty Shea, a former ranch hand at the infamous Spahn Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, California. Shea's story is shrouded in mystery and fear, as he knew too much about Charles Manson and his notorious "Family". Shea's involvement with the Manson clan has been discussed in detail, but what was the motive behind his killing? Did his knowledge of the "Family's" movements make him a liability?
Vincent Bugliosi's book "Helter Skelter" offers a perplexing account of Shea's involvement with the Manson Family, which ultimately led to his demise. The story takes a macabre turn when Shea's skeletal remains were discovered on the ranch eight years after his disappearance.
Donald "Shorty" Shea appeared in a number of films and TV shows in small roles as an extra or stuntman. Some of his film credits include "The Misfits" (1961) starring Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, "PT 109" (1963) with Cliff Robertson, and "The Sons of Katie Elder" (1965) with John Wayne and Dean Martin. He also appeared on TV shows such as "The Wild Wild West", "The Virginian", and "Perry Mason".
