The year 1852 marked a turning point in the history of American firearms. It was during this pivotal year that Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson first met and began to collaborate on their dream of creating a firearm that could be fired repeatedly without reloading with loose powder, leading to their first venture the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. In 1856, Horace and Daniel divested from the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company, establishing their second partnership, the Smith & Wesson Company. What began as the Model 1 became a legacy of innovation and American craftsmanship. For 170 years we have been dedicated to your freedom, quality and security and plan to do so for centuries to come.
