For nearly 70 years, endurance racing has been part of the fabric of Road America.

From the first six-hour Endurathon in 1956 to the legendary Road America 500, some of the greatest names in sports car racing—including Carroll Shelby, Briggs Cunningham, Augie Pabst, Derek Bell, Bobby Rahal, Al Holbert, Lyn St. James, Jeff Brabham and many more—helped build one of North America's most iconic endurance events.

Now, with endurance racing returning to Road America as part of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, we look back at the remarkable history of a race that defined generations of competitors and fans alike.
