Billions of lives around the world depend on the groundwater that runs beneath our feet. But groundwater extraction on this scale has consequences: sinking cities, dying rivers, contaminated water supplies. Is our thirst for water bleeding the planet dry?
Anthony Acciavatti’s ‘Groundwater Earth' is on display in our new free exhibition Thirst: In Search of Freshwater.

It cuts quickly between aerial views of the city, images of rising sea-levels, and scientific visualisations of the global consequences of groundwater extraction. #climatechange #indonesia #jakarta #water #crisis

![What can a garden in Brazil tell us about escape and freedom?
Quilombos - ‘freed villages’ - were established by people who escaped enslavement over 400 years ago. In the communal gardens that grow in quilombos today, ancestral knowledge and traditions have been preserved by their descendants. Curator Cindy Sissokho tells us more. Our free exhibition ‘Hard Graft: Work, Health and Rights’ is open until 27 April.
