This shade of green is supposed to be calming for hospital patients - but for the Deaf community, it can come to mean something very different.

In this reel, Christine Sun Kim - one of the artists behind our exhibition 1880 THAT - explores how the experience of Deaf people in medical settings can give complicated meanings to a colour.

1880 THAT is free and open at Wellcome Collection until April 2026.

Alt text: This reel shows the two artists Christine and Thomas Mader inside the 1880 THAT gallery space at Wellcome Collection. They stand in front of a red brick wall, and we're also shown some of the artworks in the show which feature the very specific shade of 'hospital green'.
