I think all of us in the Warriors fandom have that one background character that we get inordinately attached to and create mounds of headcanon and backstory for someone with five lines total. For me, that someone is Beetlewhisker.

If you don't remember him, he's a RiverClan cat who trained in the Dark Forest during Omen of the Stars, and was killed by Brokenstar for trying to leave. You may also know that he appeared as a continuity error in A Vision of Shadows, miraculously revived by some absent-minded editor. He was also very briefly mentioned in the Broken Code book "Place of No Stars" by his mother, Icewing. There's been some author rumors and hearsay about what his fate was, and I have decided to throw anything you may want to tell me about "canon" in the trash and make my own. Here are the events in this PMV:

Following the events of the Great Battle in "The Last Hope", Beetlewhisker has been trapped in the Dark Forest, now devoid of most cats. He roams around aimlessly in the darkness, lonely and sad. He never belonged with the evil cats, and was even killed trying to escape them. He practices fighting moves, skulks the decaying trees, and tries to act like he fits in, but it never sticks.

Mapleshade, left alive after the battle, notices Beetlewhisker's sorry state. She comes to him, telling him that toughen up and be like a real Dark Forest cat. Be wicked and cruel, violent and bitter. But Beetlewhisker can't hold up the facade, and cries to her that he can't act like that. Displeased and disgusted, Mapleshade returns to the shadows and leaves Beetlewhisker to sulk.

Many moons later, after Ashfur has been banished from the Dark Forest and StarClan connected to it once again, Beetlewhisker makes his way to the tunnel. Silverhawk, Maggottail, and Sparrowpelt all watch him, having made their own choice to remain the Dark Forest. Now Beetlewhisker really knows that StarClan doesn't care about him, no matter how hard he tried to do the right thing. He collapses at the entrance, closing his eyes, and hopes to rot away.

Suddenly he feels a paw on his shoulder. Juniperclaw, the guardian of the two worlds, nudges him awake and points to someone standing in the entrance. It's his little brother, Pricklekit, who died shortly after birth. Overjoyed to see him again, Beetlewhisker runs to Pricklekit and embraces him. Pricklekit whispers in Beetlewhisker's ear that he's come to take him to StarClan. Shocked but happy, Beetlewhisker curls around his brother and becomes a StarClan cat, reuniting with his siblings Grasspelt and Petalfur in the stars.

Now I have a LOT of thoughts on StarClan/The Dark Forest following "A Light in the Mist", and I may make a short comic with Pricklekit related to this video sometime in the future.
