Hearpeers Mentor Junior from Brazil was diagnosed with hearing loss at age three. When he was 11, he fell in love with music and taught himself guitar and keyboard. Despite struggles with pitch, he learned to read music and began teaching. Now a professional music teacher and pianist, Junior got a cochlear implant in 2018 and can’t imagine life without it.
In September 2025, Junior and eight other Hearpeers Mentors around the world travelled to Innsbruck, Austria to perform at the Hearpeers Anniversary Concert.
These hearing implant users took to the stage to showcase their musical talents, performing genres from Austrian folk music to self-composed Spanish rock ballads. The Hearpeers Anniversary Concert was a moving reminder of the life-changing potential of hearing implants.
