Shortly after Thomas Winterton was discharged from hospital with an injury nobody could diagnose, his phone rang. Investigators had heard about his case and wanted to look into it. When Jimmy Church presses him on whether that means a three-letter agency, Winterton does not confirm it and does not deny it - he says there may have been some relation to that.
He explains how they found him: through back channels of relationships established during the era when the ranch was funded from Washington, when there was an investigation running on that property. Some of the people involved back then had never stopped paying attention. What follows is one of the more careful conversations you will hear on this subject, because Winterton is openly working out loud where the line is. He describes three separate injuries - the physical trauma of being scalped over a couple of days, a psychological component he will not go into, and the investigation itself, which he says was the most traumatic and disturbing part of all and turned his world upside down for a year.
The investigation did produce answers. He will share that it produced possible causes, and that what he was told helped him understand what took place. He will not share what those causes were. Asked directly whether the ranch caused it, he answers: no comment on that for now. Asked whether it was natural, he is unambiguous - it was not natural, and it was caused.
Then he offers one correlation and stops. His first symptoms appeared on March 4th, 2017. The month before, the United States had evacuated non-essential personnel from its embassy in Havana over the cluster of unexplained neurological injuries now known as Havana syndrome. He says there were some very interesting things happening in the world at that time, and that he will leave it at that.
