This incredible double feature Blu-ray release from Kino Lorber is of two painstaking restorations of nearly lost Douglas Fairbanks silent classics: THE GOOD BAD MAN and THE HELF BREED (both 1916). A must own release for all silent fans! These films were both directed by Allan Dwan, photographed by Victor Fleming and star Douglas Fairbanks in roles very much outside of his swashbuckling image. THE GOOD BAD MAN only survives in a cutdown reissue version but remains a strikingly classic Western that is still wonderfully enjoyable.
THE HALF BREED had to be completely reconstructed shot by shot and the original title cards recreated as best as possible to restore the original release version. The film has existed over the years under many different titles and was heavily cut down, heavily re-edited and entirely rewritten. Seen in this beyond revelatory restoration it emerges as a staggering silent masterwork decades ahead of its time.
