Dumb title, I know. But true. The Great Pyramid has just been around a long time. Plenty of time for the occasional conspiracy theory to pop up. If "Ancient aliens" or astronauts of some kind built the pyramids using levitation beams shot from their UFO, they got it wrong a LOT before they built the pyramids at Giza. Even the Great Pyramid shows signs of mistakes that needed to be improvised and engineered around. Humans have never needed the help of alien craft to built stuff. Even 4,500 years ago, we could build stuff without visitors from beyond in their space-ships.
And catacombs under the Sphinx containing a lost library...? Well, it would be a very wet library.
Anyway, Cairo is a really cool place. The atmosphere is awesome. Especially if you are willing go stay in a slummy area instead of sitting with the other tourists, talking about the weather. Attractions in Egypt are pretty spread out, so, if you want to see Alexandria, go diving in the Red Sea, take a balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings, or see Abu Simbel in Aswan, you will have to fly or take a very long train ride.
