In 1940, Nazi Germany had blitzed through Western Europe, with France, Belgium and the Netherlands already fallen. Faced with a potential ground invasion by Hitler’s forces, Churchill drew up plans to relocate the entire British Government to Montreal, Canada. There, they would continue fight the war effort from afar. As it was part of the British Empire at the time, and so far away from the main conflicts that it experienced no attacks, it was the perfect choice.
