Man's desire to explore extended into space. Maps were drawn, corrected as science progressed. These new travelers have for vessels terrestrial or space telescopes always more powerful, which push further the limits of knowledge. Astrophysicist Hélène Courtois and her international team of astronomers are among these new explorers. In 2014, while working on a new space map, they succeeded in mapping for the first time the galactic supercluster, Laniakea, in which the Milky Way is located, thus revealing with unprecedented precision the Earth's location in the cosmos. In seeking to understand the origin of the movement of our galaxy, astrophysicists have come to suggest the existence of a "Great Attractor", dense regions in the Universe that would influence the trajectory of our galaxy. This mass, a gravitational anomaly, would be located at the center of our galactic supercluster. Some scientists believe that this Great Attractor would be a confluence of dark energy. By mapping the universe, researchers have discovered that it is not uniform but the result of a cluster of galaxies connected by filaments revealing areas of matter flow, including the Great Attractor. The movements of galaxies are not only influenced by expansion but also by gravitation.
The discovery of the astrophysicist Hélène Courtois allows us to see in a new way the cosmos and its invisible world.
