This week Kawasaki Z650RS throttle diaries goes to the Goolwa Barrage (South Australia).
The Goolwa barrage is one of five barrages built to keep the lower lakes of the Coorong filled with fresh water, preventing the ingress of sea water from the Great Australian bight. In days of old enough water flowed down the River Murray to keep the lower lakes filled with fresh water for most of the time, with only the occasional inflow of seawater at times of high tide etc. Until of course pressure came from higher up the river system to effectively build dams aka barrages so flows down the river could be reduced, allowing irrigation and water to be taken for towns which didn’t have any natural fresh water. Adelaide being one of those reasons. Adelaide wouldn’t have any fresh water were it not for the freshwater of the River Murray being piped to it. The Goolwa barrage is the largest and deepest. The seawater on the ocean side of it is only metres deep. I’ve kayaked out there and it is really easy to beach on sand banks. The barrage system was built between 1935 and 1940.
Leaving the fuel station at Strathalbyn I thought the helmet camera was recording but continuing with the yet more technical woes it seems the triangular controller has become unreliable also. So I pulled over thinking o had just captured good footage of the USB charger going between on and off, when in fact I hadn’t captured anything as the camera wasn’t recording. Nor had I captured the giraffe and zebra family in a paddock at Callington but that’s another story and another video, well it is now! Anyway, the advice from Quadlock was to try another cable. So here I am sorting out where to put the iPhone supplied charging cable replacing the Quadlock supplied version and guess what…… it worked fine and was charging all the way home for the next 25 minutes. Seems the USB unit is correctly installed but it needs a more powerful or original phone cable in order to successfully charge. I shall relay this to Quadlock on Monday.
