A new megatheropod carcharodontosaur terrorized Cretaceous North America, living alongside Utahraptor. Utahraptor wasn't the apex predator of its own environment: the Dragon of Cedar Mountain was. A basal carcharodontosaurid the size of Torvosaurus and Acrocanthosaurus, it's known from various remains from the upper Yellow Cat Member of the Cedar Mountain Formation. In November 2025, a team of Utah paleontologists presented on remains of an animal that would completely change our understanding of the Yellow Cat fauna and ecology: a giant carcharodontosaurid that ruled North America millions of years before Acrocanthosaurus or Siats. This was the Dragon of Cedar Mountain.
