In this video, we dive into a massive breakthrough in virtual and mixed reality media. Startup company Gracia has officially made 4D Gaussian Splatting streamable directly inside your VR headset's web browser, br it Quest 3, Steam frame, or nearly anything else!
Historically, watching photorealistic 6DoF (6 Degrees of Freedom) moving scenes required a massive PC VR rig or downloading hundreds of megabytes of data per second. Gracia has completely eliminated the friction of the initial download requirement by building a video-codec style approach to 3D spaces. Instead of treating a volumetric scene like heavy 3D asset files, they compress it in a special way, encoding only keyframes and motion change deltas over time. Using the WebGPU graphics API, your standalone headset can now render millions of semitransparent blobs (Gaussian Splats) in real-time.
