It was a long time coming but the day has finally arrived. The replacements of Qantas' tired Boeing 737 fleet are starting to roll in and I was lucky enough to be on the very first flight.
This is the Airbus A321XLR, the future backbone of Qantas' domestic operation and an aircraft that will open up brand new international possibilities too.
So what's it like and how much better is it than the 737? Join me and let's find out together!
Qantas has ordered 47 of these Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The XLR stands for Extended Long Range. They fly further, are more fuel efficient and are much much quieter than the 737. But was is the customer experience like? Is it more comfortable for the economy and business traveller?
Today's maiden flight was from Sydney to Melbourne return. This flight was by special invite only so I am very grateful to be onboard. With me are various competition winners, Qantas management, industry partners, aviation YouTubers and the media. Yes it is a classic junket designed to raise awareness of Qantas new product - but I have total editorial freedom so can say what I really think. This aircraft is excellent in many ways but it does have some flaws and I highlight them in this video.
Thanks for watching! Let me know what you think of this new Airbus A321XLR.
