For America's 250th birthday, Gun Owners Radio's Dakota tells the full story of how the Fourth of July actually happened, and what it asks of the rest of us.
She walks the real timeline from the shot heard round the world to the Treaty of Paris: seven long, uncertain years that turned an act of treason into a country. Along the way, the history most of us were never taught. Only about a third of colonists actively backed independence. John Adams was sure we would celebrate July 2nd, not the 4th. And Philadelphia lit its first Fourth-of-July fireworks in the middle of a war it might still lose, celebrating hope, not victory.
Then she makes it personal: we inherited a country we didn't build, and keeping it is the job now.
In this segment:
-Why our rights come from the Creator, not a king, and why that idea was truly revolutionary
-The real Revolutionary War timeline: Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Trenton, Saratoga, Valley Forge, Yorktown
-Why the founders followed free speech immediately with the right to keep and bear arms
-Only one in three colonists supported independence, and why the right thing is rarely the popular thing
-John Adams's letter to Abigail: "pomp and parade, with bonfires and illuminations"
-What it means to be a good steward of a 250-year-old experiment in self-government
Happy Independence Day from Gun Owners Radio.
