HOW I USE THE FOOLSCAP METHOD
I want to talk about how I use The Foolscap Method – how it has helped and continues to help me as I hit roadblocks.
So I make a one page Foolscap filling in all the items, one through ten on the sheet.
Beyond that I have a file for each of the sections. One for Genre, one for inciting incident, etc., and then here is where I go into the weeds.
For instance the climax is embedded in the inciting incident. I spend a lot of time making sure that the climax is there in the inciting incident.
Also the inciting incident is where the hero acquires their intention – and then I’ll really ask myself does this happen.
The all is lost moment is one part, but then there has to be an answer – how does the hero react to the all is lost moment and this can be a big file, page after page.
The Foolscap Sheet will keep you on a path. Then separately from this, you’ll dig into each one of these item by item. I do it by keeping files.
