Some ferries use rotating car decks to turn vehicles around during the crossing but the ship itself still has to manoeuvre at the terminal. A double ended ferry removes that extra step by making the vessel symmetrical from one end to the other.

It has a vehicle deck and loading ramp at both ends so cars can drive straight through. Traditional designs have a bridge at each end while newer versions use one central bridge with controls that switch for either direction.
