The Famous Six-Toed Cats At The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum In Key West! They Were Awesome!
We went to the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum in Key West, and chose to a the self-guided tour around the property.Free guided tours are also available. The House and the grounds around it are very nice, and we learned a lot about Ernest Hemingway's personal life and career as a writer as we walked around and read about the various exhibits. But after we left and went back to our hotel room, we looked at our video footage and photos, and found that we must've also liked the cats that were there! Those would be the famous six-toed (polydactyl) cats that roam the property, some of which are descendants of a white six-toed cat named Snow White that was given to Hemingway by a ship's captain. At the time we visited (February 2023), there were 57 cats in residence, all living pretty good and pampered lives! No part of the house is off limits to the cats, and we found them on beds, tables, chairs, and even in a bird bath. They don't seem to be afraid of guests, but you are told not to pet them...but we saw a couple of people that did anyway! That's people for you. So, this video ended up being mainly about the cats, and we think they rightfully deserve the attention. Thanks for watching!
