At the GBA-ASEAN Conference on Energy Transition and Integration, Dr Fiaz Ahmad highlights the critical role of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in driving ASEAN’s energy transition.

Drawing on Pakistan’s experience with independent power producers, he stresses the importance of clear contracts, terms of reference and long-term planning when engaging major stakeholders in energy infrastructure.

With SOEs accounting for around 26% of companies across Asia, coordinated investment in power generation, infrastructure and energy transition could be key to turning ASEAN’s long-standing vision of an interconnected power grid into reality.
