📖💡 Teachers and Innovation at the Heart of Malaysia’s Education Reform
Education reform lies at the core of Malaysia’s aspirations under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13). On 28 August 2025, the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI) convened a public forum, RMK-13 & Education Reform: Building a Future-Ready Malaysia, to explore how the nation can reshape its education system for the challenges of tomorrow.
The session brought together Tan Sri Idris Jusoh (Former Minister of Education II & Higher Education), Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed (ASLI Board of Director; Former Minister of Economy & Higher Education), and Cheryl Ann Fernando (Director, Global Institute), who offered diverse perspectives on the future of education.
Speakers emphasised that reform must go beyond policy frameworks: teachers must be empowered through training and support; digital readiness is essential for building a competitive workforce; and governance and accountability will determine if RMK-13’s bold aspirations become reality.
Collaboration between government, industry, and academia was highlighted as key to bridging the skills gap, while education itself must remain a driver of unity and resilience.
From embedding innovation in classrooms to ensuring equitable access between rural and urban schools, the message was clear: reform must be inclusive, agile, and future-focused.
