I've been stuck at home sick for a few days—just endless sleeping, eating, and YouTube scrolling. And that's when I saw it: the **DJI Osmo Action 6 has already been launched in China! 🤯
Wait, what?! I thought the global launch was set for November 18th! Now that we know everything, I'm not sure how exciting that "official" day will be. But, this surprise drop gave me the perfect excuse to dive deep into the first hands-on comparisons.
I found an excellent channel, ChrisV, who has already tested the Action 6. He even did a killer comparison: the new Action 6 vs. the Action 5 and the Pocket 3. All links are below, so check out his channel!
Is the Action 6 Worth the Hype?
Honestly? The differences between the Action 5 and Action 6 aren't massive. The biggest upgrade, and the main reason to consider it, is the new, larger 1/1.1 square sensor.
Bigger Sensor: The 1/1.1 sensor size is the standout feature, which also enables the Open Gate 1.1 recording. This gives you more vertical and horizontal flexibility in post-production, which is huge for multi-platform creators (YouTube, TikTok, Reels!).
The Rest is Familiar: Video modes, 10-Bit color, D-Log M, and max resolution all appear to be the same as the Action 5. I suspect DJI might roll out a future update to unlock higher resolutions, but for now, it's mostly a low-light-focused hardware bump.
The Low-Light Advantage & My Verdict
So, do you need the Action 6?
If you don't own a DJI camera yet: Absolutely, the Action 6 is a fantastic starting point.
If you film a lot in low-light conditions: This is the only reason for an immediate upgrade from the Action 5. The larger sensor should provide noticeably cleaner low-light footage than both the Action 5 and the Osmo Nano.
