The Delines, from Portland, Oregon, were born from an idea by musician and writer Willy Vlautin, who joined forces with singer Amy Boone, gifted with a splendid and evocative voice, during a tour of Willy's band Richmond Fontaine. Since then, they have recorded seven albums, and "The Set Up" is their new work, that is not much different from the previous Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom, made last year. The style blends Americana and country-soul, and is characterized by evocative and elegant arrangements and Amy's intimate, velvety interpretation. The album seems designed specifically for late-night listening, when the city softens the noise and quiets down and the atmosphere lends itself to reflection. It's a cinematic, crepuscular, enveloping, and elegant collection of songs, with original lyrics by Vlautin, that successfully moves between music and literature.
